Keep on top of referrals and authorizations. Find out what referrals are bringing in revenue and generate customizable letters to patients and doctors. MDoffice fully manages referral processing and tracking for treatments allowed and services performed. MDoffice tracks incoming and outgoing referral information including the number of authorized visits and charges per visit. Referral management is completely integrated in scheduling, check-out, and registration.

Effective referral management improves the quality of patient care and reduces the risks taken on by the primary care physician. MDoffice completely manages the referral process including authorization, tracking and billing. Referral analysis tells who and what is generating productive referrals, providing valuable marketing information.

MDoffice provides three major types of referrals -- referrals to specialists, referrals to facilities issued from Primary Care Physician's (PCPs), and referrals received by the specialist from PCPs. Referrals can include the chief complaint or problem, diagnosis, or present fully detailed care plans. It can provide authorization levels, custom referral forms, narrative instructions, results tracking, etc.

Incoming and outgoing referrals.

Incoming Referrals
Incoming referrals to the practice for specialists are recorded so that you can track the allowed number of visits and maximum dollar. Each visit will automatically reduce the allowed visits and comments for each referral can be maintained. This information can be automatically displayed when you book appointments and enter charges and payments.

Incoming referrals can be used to create treatment plans and to track the patient's progression toward completion of the referral limits. Referrals maintain basic referral information including expiry dates, services allowed and rendered, and the number of visits authorized and used with alert messages.

Outgoing Referrals
For Primary Care Physicians (PCPs), you can issue and send outgoing patient referrals to other physicians containing essential data such as the referral #, plan, authorization code, number of visits, number of dollars, service period, diagnosis, procedures, doctor and specialty requirements.

Since certain insurance plans could have limits for referrals to specialists, the PCP physician must quickly determine if a patient has any remaining allowed visits or amounts available for referral out. A specialist can view the remaining dollar and visits, the starting and ending dates of each active referral and other key information. The referral itself can be viewed in detail at any time.

MDoffice's referral tracking system is an easy to use reference file for PCP's to coordinate a patient's outgoing referrals. It matches any visit to a specific referral and identifies the number of authorized visits remaining and the referral expiration date. Managed care reporting capabilities enable PCP's to track a patient's visits with specialists and followup for future visits.

Authorized number of visits.

Referrals are easy to enter, and comprehensive as well. Limits of the referral are very clear including start and end dates, number of visits authorized, used and remaining. This ensures that a referral is connected to an appointment and sufficient visits remain on the present authorization. Also included are the name of the referring physician and original diagnosis and treatment procedures, if provided.

In cases where insurance providers or HMOs authorize limited numbers of visits, the authorized and remaining number of visits and dollar amount are automatically updated. Upon check-in for such a limited appointment, the remaining number of visits will be decreased automatically.
